Medfield, MA – Students and staff of the Montrose School were able to begin classes for the January semester at their newly renovated facility in Medfield, MA thanks to careful planning and execution of the renovation of their new campus. Nauset Construction, of Needham, MA and the team members worked diligently to complete the $3.2 million dollar 42,000 sq. ft., 6-month, fast-track renovation of the former Bayer Labs to create new classrooms and facilities for the all girls Catholic School, for grades 6-12.
According to Karen Bohlin, Head of School, "Nauset Construction was very sensitive to our need to complete this project on-time. As changes to our design and plan surfaced during construction, Nauset responded quickly with a high level of professionalism and expertise, which, in tern, allowed us to immediately overcome any substantial impact to our budget and schedule. We are extremely pleased with our new campus and look forward to many years in our new home in Medfield."
"We were very focused on the school’s planned move-in date," stated, Anthony Papantonis, President of Nauset Construction. "Teamwork was the foundation of this very successful project. The construction schedule was very tight, but with careful execution and planning, we were able to adjust to changes quickly and efficiently and complete the project on time, even with about a 40% scope increase from the original design," he added.
Working under time critical deadlines, Nauset completed the project within the 6 month timeframe specified by the school. Nauset’s comprehensive preconstruction planning and construction management expertise within the education environment allowed the school to experience a smooth transition of the entire campus to their new facility in time to avoid any inconveniences to hundreds of families and employees. The 13.5-acre campus includes academic buildings, administrative offices, athletic fields, and a chapel. The project was successfully completed on a fast-track, 6-month schedule with very aggressive project goals, despite major increases to the original scope of the project.
Nauset Construction, a full service construction company, was selected for the renovation last fall, at the conclusion of a competitive bid process. The project presented many construction and design challenges to completely renovate and upgrade the existing buildings and landscape and coordinate an entire campus move while some of the facility was still under construction. Nauset and their teams completed extensive interior demolition and major building upgrades including new mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) and life safety systems within a very aggressive schedule. New finishes, elevators, exterior walkways and entrances were also included in the original project scope.
Nauset Construction worked closely with the Montrose staff, project architect, Robert Olson + Associates of Boston and construction management consultant, Robert Stanley of G.R. Stanley of Burlington, MA, to successfully achieve mission critical deadlines and deliver the project on schedule. The finished renovation provides the Montrose community with over 50% more space than their previous campus location in Natick, MA.
In September 2006, the 134 students, their families, and staff celebrated the ground breaking of their new campus. Montrose School, founded 27 years ago by a group of parents, had previously rented space in Natick and Newton. The school’s rigorous college preparatory program focuses on the development of the whole person through a challenging liberal arts curriculum and personal character formation.
Nauset Construction has extensive experience in the education market sector with several projects throughout New England in preconstruction and construction. Nauset is currently the Construction Manager for a new residence hall for Lyndon Institute, located in Lyndon Center, VT, and is actively reviewing other upcoming private school projects.
