The MEP / BIM Coordinator is responsible for the MEP, FP, and structural coordination of projects from the preconstruction / design development phase through the project’s commissioning and final completion. This position works closely with Project Management, Field Operations, Design Consultants, and subcontractors and suppliers to ensure efficient communication and the seamless integration of building systems for each project.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Review and overlay multiple design team discipline drawings to identify variances or conflicts, i.e.: routing of duct/pipe paths to structural and architectural designs.
Establish meeting agendas for design team review and discussion on solutions to variances identified.
Review MEP/FP contract documents and associated subcontract work scopes with the project management team.
Create (dependent on project size) or review design team Revit Models.
Assemble baseline model inclusive of foundations/steel fabricator models/truss designer models for MEP Coordination.
Review baseline model in both Revit and Navisworks to identify clashes not previously detected during the preconstruction process.
Meet with MEP/FP trades along with concrete, steel, wood framing, and roofing subcontractors on weekly/bi-weekly basis for MEP Coordination.
Review all MEP/FP submittals from associated subcontractors prior to being sent to the consulting team.
Assemble RFI’s for design team responses.
Ensure equipment modeling is based on submitted products. Inquire about any additional information needed for coordination that may not be present on submittals.
Perform pre-bid site visits with clients, architects, and subcontractors, to better understand project performance goals, program, schedule, and existing site conditions.
Conduct periodic visits to jobsites or as requested by field staff during construction to review ongoing MEP/FP work for adherence to the contract documents, the approved coordination drawings and the approved materials and equipment submittals.
Provide in field conflict resolution and general QA/QC oversight of all MEP/FP installations.
Requirements
Minimum 5 years of applicable industry experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
Self-starter with a positive attitude.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Ability to collaborate professionally and communicate effectively with co-workers, subcontractors, and third parties.
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand, and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will spend their time in an office environment with a quiet to moderate noise level. Job site visits are routine requiring the ability to maneuver through buildings and active job sites involving walking and climbing stairs in/around buildings or properties. Other required activities may include bending, stooping, reaching as well as lifting, moving, and carrying up to 25 pounds. The expected salary range for this role is $80,000 to $110,000 per year. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
